Confluence Point is a novel in the Regan's Reach series

A Coran Artificial intelligence has taken over Dahlia Orbital in the Gliese 667C star system. When Regan's AI partner Ham dispatches the invader he finds himself the new Orbital Mind, a role for which he is amply equipped . . . but far from suited. It only takes a shade over eight days for him to become bored, mind numbingly bored. So what does a precocious, talented, and somewhat unscrupulous AI do while he waits for the expected second coming of Regan Stein to the Gliese 667C system?

Hmmm . . . second coming . . . now there's an idea.

Meanwhile, Regan's nemesis the Empress Beria has conned her way into the Emperor of Cora's bed. When a drone from the Coran warship Behemoth arrives back from Earth with news about Regan and a bastard son well, what is a bitter ambitious woman to do with the information?

And when a Mind from a completely different area of the galaxy arrives at Hillary Station to challenge Regan about the actions of her 'agent' back in Gliese the stage is set for action in all reaches of the Milky Way.

Will Regan's reach be enough to deal with the challenges? Well, certainly not on her own.

This is classic science fiction in a series that includes technology, androids, interstellar travel, action, politics and mystery. The series tracks sixteen years in the life of the remarkable Regan Stein and her friends. It will entertain you, challenge you and provoke your thinking on everything from the nature of the human heart to the nature of evil.

With the Renaissance of space opera that indie publishing and e-books brought about this is refreshingly different. It is space fiction with lots of action and lots of exotic technology - but not the usual rehash of space battles and Galactic empires.

In almost 60 years of reading science fiction - probably 2000 or 3000 books and at least as many stories in the Golden age of SF magazines - I haven't found a character like Ham very often. He certainly beats "Hal" of 2001 hands-down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sorely needed new heroine

I think this was a terrific beginning to a new series but more importantly a new heroine for the scifi genre. It's also refreshing to read an intelligent scifi novel without galactic space battles or alien earth invasions. Regan is by no means a genius but she's ambitious, focused, assertive and especially knows how to assemble a good team to make her dreams reality.

I enjoyed this third book in a series, and plan to read the next one when it's published. The positives include a likable set of protagonists headed by Regan herself, and the not entirely trustworthy but likable AI, Ham. The pace is fast, and adventures and conflicts colorful.

On the other hand, the science and the psychology of characters, both human and non-human is superficial, at best, on the order of the original Star Trek -- more sciency handwaving then a serious attempt at a consistent universe. The villains are typically two-dimensional, and the supporting cast are not much better.

There is occasional but fairly explicit mention of sex, which I found worked well with the plot, but some may find distracting from the near-classic SF adventure plot. And this last is perhaps the best part of the books -- the spirit of hope and accomplishment through the wonders of technology, wielded by likable people.

Confluence Point Regan Reach Book 3 eBook Mark G Brewer Reviews

Another great read from Mark G. I have loved the development of the characters in this SiFi adventure that has me exploring the Galaxy and never sure of what is coming next. Looking forward to the next instalment and interested in how the love interest of the leading characters develops. Definitely a story for an adult audience but a story that will definitely leave you wanting more.
Ok I'm a big fan of this series the sci fi great and love the main female character, can't get enough of these books
I love this series. So glad I found it. What great characters he has in Regan and Ham. The story line is smart, fun and adventurous. I'm on the 4th book in the series now and don't want it to end. Thanks for a great read!
The Regan's Reach series is so absorbing it's hard to put the books down. The series has a unique storyline and is clearly and engagingly written. Some of my favorite books; can hardly wait for the next installment.
MGB has continued to write the series of Regan Stein and various other AI's. The Stein Corporation continues to expand on Earth and on the new space station. Her teams have completed the new space fighter. There are two models. One is a drone and the other carries a human fighter pilot. They prove useful when thee Corans space ships arrive. This is an excellent read for the genre.... ER
That this first time author has produced in under a year a trilogy of three increasingly complex narratives, each of which have retained the ability to grip my attention and persuaded me to accept the necessary conceits of science fiction and follow the rabbit' through the twists and turns that he explores, is a remarkable accomplishment. I (and, I have no doubt, many others) am so glad that these magnificent tales are not languishing with the many that wait for attention in the dwindling number of publishing houses that will even look at unsolicited manuscripts.

While the author confronts weighty matters of the nature of consciousness, and does not shrink from the vagrancies of the human condition, he continues to do so with a penetrating wit that is balanced by an always good-humoured optimism. He clearly has much more yet to to say and will no doubt continue to build on the skilfulness with which these tales seem to stream so effortlessly from his keyboard.
Read them, and be ready for the next instalment!
Disclaimer - I did a little editing on this series, as a favour for an old friend. Having said that, of the three books this was the hardest one to edit. Not because there were lots of errors, but because the story gripped me so much that it was almost impossible not to read ahead.

This is the book where I both laughed and cried. The ending stayed with me for days, and I found myself dipping back into it again and again to read certain scenes. Mark has done a masterful job of weaving plot lines together seamlessly, and the surprises are many - and welcome. This book really builds on the first two and brings such a conclusion that my heart broke a little. I even dreamed the final scene over a couple of nights - it was that powerful.

The characters are so endearing, so real, and while the plot is fantastic it's what is at the core of their decisions that makes all the difference. Things like love, loyalty, and sacrifice. I was sorry to finish this one - but that has just left me excited for book 4 which won't be too far away.

Can I ask one favour? If this review was part of your decision to buy Confluence Point, when you have finished reading it, would you place a review too? Self publishing is a lonely business, and I know authors appreciate feedback and reviews.
